After landing, you will need to have the engine inspected to determine the cause of the engine oil loss, and low engine oil pressure. If it is found that the engine has been operated with oil below the minimum safe level, and/or low oil pressure, the engine will need to be stripped and thoroughly inspected before it can be returned to service.
My 231 (Continental TSIO 360 LB) suddenly developed low oil pressure. When I started it this morning, the pressure ran up about mid-scale when it usually goes up to about 2/3s to 3/4 scale when cold. (But I thought perhaps the weather is a little warmer than it has been). After warm up, on run up...

After the initial signaling, each time the engine is started, the warning light will continue to flash cyclically for 3 minutes with intervals of 5 seconds with the warning ...
What would be the cause for low oil pressure at idle. Its went from 20lbs to 7-10lbs gradually over the course of a few weeks. I still have good pressure(40 lbs) at cruise and around town. The engine only has about 3000 miles on it so I dont think it's a wear issue. I will ad that when cold it has 20+ idling.
I have been trying to troubleshoot a low oil pressure issue. For the Lyco-Saurus IO-540 drivers out there, CAN YOU PLEASE HELP and provide me with what is your "usual" oil pressure for the following parameters? Idle at 1000 RPM engine cold (like 50-70F oil temp) Idle at 1000 RPM engine...
Cruise along just fine, put your foot in it oil pressure waivers a bit, decelerate and shortly there after oil pressure drops to 0! Plenty of oil in engine, can't be pump, or I should be able to cruise with good pressure.. do oil & filter change. Same problem still there.
Jan 10, 2010 · Oil light flickering on at idle after warmup on my 97 outback sport with 175K miles. Bought the car recently from a mechanic with a "New" used EJ22 with 120K miles. Mechanic says he will replace the oilpump for the cost of parts with free labor. Low coolant level. Cooling system needs flushing. Defective radiator cap. Defective thermostat. Defective water temperature indicator or sender. Low oil level. Loose or defective alternator belt. Do not operate at SLOW idle, Operate at FAST idle. Dirty grille, radiator screen or radiator cooling fins. Plugged air intake filter.
If the oil light flickers on and off while the vehicle is stopped or at an idle, there may be a problem with the oil sensor or the pressure is too low. At the very least, the engine should have 5 PSI when not moving. If the PSI is less than 5, this will trigger the oil light and cause it to flicker off and on.
Jun 26, 2016 · But, on your daughter's MINI, the big risk is letting the oil level get too low, as all MINIs lose oil between changes. Even if the oil had never been changed, as long as the oil level remained sufficiently full, today's synthetic oils would survive 23,000 miles. Not to say that's a good idea, but it shouldn't kill the engine.
Causes of Low Oil pressure after Oil Change + How to Fix Low Oil Pressure at Idle Motor oil is a lubricant that protects your car engine from friction which in other words stops it from overheating and break-down. The car engine oil helps to prevent friction from moving components and reduces wear and tear.
Jan 07, 2014 · I have had the same problem TWICE! I had a oil pressure light first, then the CEL. I checked the codes and found P0522. My oil pressure showed 1 psi at idle on the digital read out, pressure then ran up to 55 psion cruise. I replaced the oil pressure switch/sender and all was OK for a month.
heres the tease, on first start up it goes high, around 80-90 then after it warms up it settles around 50 or so, but the moment i rev the engine (at idle n neutral) i can rev it up to 3-4g and oil pressure goes over 100psi. if im cruising down the road it acts just like it should ranging from 30~70psi but again the higher in rpms i get the ...

May 14, 2008 · Oil grade wont matter, unless you're really using LOW VICOSITY 0W40/5W40 should be fine, though I'd go a bit higher for summer, but mines turbocharged so I get low oil pressure due to several things. And your idle oil pressure should be up even if you have low idle. To forum readers:

A chain-driven, vane-type variable displacement oil pump adjusts the flow rate and pressure as commanded by the engine management system, which uses a solenoid to drive the pump into low or high pressure mode. For example, below 3,500 rpm, the pump conserves energy by using low pressure; at speeds over 3,500 rpm, the pump switches to high pressure.

Sep 01, 2015 · The bike shows 54,000 miles on it. My question has to do with the Harley oil pressure. When I first start the engine up my oil gauge shows 30 psi. Once it is warmed up and under load it shows 20 psi. and it has gone to 5-10 psi and come back up again. At idle it shows 0 psi. Is this something I should be worried about or is it normal for a Twin ...

When I drive my Prius, everything seemed then the Low oil pressure light came on for about a second, and then went off. This happened a few times. I didn't notice any leak. I didn't notice it coming on after I reset the oil data. Could this have to do with the new oil making its way around the engine? First time I've changed my oil in this. Thanks.
To remedy this, repeat steps 2 and 3 and continue until oil pressure is indicated. 8. The line disconnected in step 2 may be reconnected after the oil pressure is attained and the oil is flowing from the disconnected lines. 9. Turn the engine with the starter for approximately 10 seconds to check for continued oil pressure. 10.
Low oil pressure could be due to having a restriction in the system from oil sludge or deposits that have built up. We recommend flushing the system and then reevaluating the situation from there. Feel free to contact our technical support line at 888-863-0426 with any other questions.
May 12, 2010 · Having no oil pressure doesn't mean "drive it around and see if the oil pressure comes back". If you're lucky, I mean really lucky, it may be something as minor as a bad sending unit, loose wire or faulty gauge. It could more easily be a bad oil pump, clogged screen in the pickup, etc, which is actually causing you to have no oil pressure. Dude ...
On most vehicles, the oil pressure on a hot engine at idle should be at least 8-10 PSI. If the oil pressure is satisfactory, the most likely cause is a defective oil pressure sending unit. Confirm this by temporarily disconnecting the wire. If the light remains off, replacement of the oil pressure sending unit will be necessary.
Picture shown is oil pressure at idle. Here is Havoline 10w/40 conventional oil I just changed after 30min of driving. Picture shown is oil pressure at idle. [engine was still hot when the oil was added]. So you can see that the slightly heavier oil in the last pic is just above the zero mark vs the full syn "thinner" oil at just below the zero ...
An engine with less than 25 pounds of pressure is not okay and a vehicle that flashes a low oil pressure light that tells you to shut off the engine shouldn’t be ignored, but it was. If your low pressure light is steady or appears intermittently, do yourself a favor and just shut off your engine, get your car towed, and count your blessings.
The measurements are from Sandwich plate, between the oil filter and oil cooler. I changed the oil in the same viscosity. I changed the oil filter. Did not change anything. I changed the oil pump, I checked the metal connecting rods, and was in very good condition. The problem is only at idle. When the revs climb the pressure is normal.
Nov 28, 2010 · Posted: Thu Nov 25, 2010 8:12 am Post subject: Ford 8N Oil Pressure question: Hi there folks, I've got a Ford 8N that the oil pressure slowly drops to about 3-5 psi after working for about half an hour to 45 minutes depending on the work it's doing.
I think more often then not it will read lower @ idle after an oil change because the oil new and thin.....it has not had a chance to get a little dirty and thicken up. I don't think this fact plays a major role but may be a difference of 1-3 PSI
Jul 29, 2012 · the engine was rebuilt in the mid 80's very low mileage on the motor, and has never been driven hard. oil pressure has always been 40 psi at speed and would drop to 15-20 psi at idle. just recently it has started to drop to 0 at idle. guess I should check the gauge first as its a a electric unit. also it only drops to 0 after it warms up. when first running even at idle its 20 psi.
Dec 16, 2011 · Did a search and all I found was a short thread on low oil pressure in an LS2. I have an LS1 out of a '98 Camaro Z28 with only 36,000 miles on it. It has been in the car 7 years now and has had what I consider excellent oil pressure. The oil pressure gauge needle generally runs straight up to just right of straight up at all RPM's from idle up.

As I said its a pressure light. Not a low oil light. When the motor is running there is oil pressure and the light will go off. If you turn the motor off the light will turn on. Most Japanese bikes have a low oil level light. Victory has a better oil indicator. Like a car it is a oil pressure warning system.
If I head up into the mountain passes and do 20-30 minutes of continuous spirited driving, oil temps will get around 240 degrees and idle pressure will go down to around 20psi. Different oils are blended differently from eachother, even if they are in the same weight. Different blends will cause different pressures
Jun 15, 2008 · At any rate, it is an idle probelm of some kind, and has nothing to do with the low oil pressure light ,--- in fact the probelm is the other way around,-- the low oil pressure light is because of the idle not being right (and engine dying)!
hahah in my opinion you cant have too high oil pressure. you might get a leak but it wouldn't affect your engine unless you let it all leak out. i too am having a low pressure problem. at idle it drops about 2 clicks below tolerance line but while driving its cool in the middle. i understand the sending unit and gauges suck on these but the light goes on and off sparadically when this happens ...
It doesn't do it normally just driving through town. I had the oil sending unit replaced on it because the mechanic said it was leaking and he also said they hooked mechanical gauges up to it and it had low oil pressure. Around 16 or something at idle and he said it should be around 23.
RE: 4.7 Low Oil pressure ? IP: Logged Message: I have a 2002 durango with the 4.7 engine which always ran with low oil pressure, and with 25000 mile oil pressure would fail completely, when I took it into the dealer for warrenty, they wanted me to produce at least 6 reciepts for oil changes or they would not warrenty the engine.
well i hooked up a oil pressure tester today to see what i was at and i seem to be WAY to high. according to alldata at 800 rpm's i should have roughly 14psi of pressure. when i was at 800 rpms i had 98psi of oil pressure!! once the car was warm it settled around 85-90 which still seems very high.
The Cummins B engines run very low oil pressure at idle when warm, say in the 10 lb. range and that is totally normal.
The oil pressure switch is attached to the oil filter adapter behind the front exhaust manifold. If this is a low pressure problem at idle, I believe is caused by the oil manifold gasket where the seals have deteriorated and pressure is lost internally. It is quite a big job.
Jan 17, 2019 · Although low oil level is the most common reason for low oil pressure, there are other preventable conditions that cause it, which car owners may neglect. For example, with the new extended periods for oil changes in modern engines, car owners do not only forget to check oil level between changes, they also forget to change the oil when it ...
Low idle combined with heat from low speeds, or very high speeds = lower than normal oil pressure. There's a fair difference, in oil pressure, between 750-800 rpm and 1000 rpm. A lot of people idle Sportsters way too low, because they like the sound, besides low oil pressure, the engine response from idle up is poor.
Dec 13, 2020 · Started it up and the pressure was good, idle at 30-ish psi. So decided to take it out around the bay, for first 5 mins everything ran great and oil pressure was right where it should be under load and at idle. After 10-15 mins, when I would stop the boat, it started happening again. Would dip down to 2-4 psi for a second, which throws the warning.
Dec 11, 2016 · Have had the same issue with 6.0 and 6.2 Vortec's. Started having oil change shop add 1/2 bottle of Lucas Oil Additive (like STP) at oil change and problem stopped. Apr 17, 2017 · I spent the next several hours looking online for things like: Mercruiser 4.3 no oil pressure after oil change, remote mounted oil Mercruiser oil pressure, oil change pressure loss remote mount, etc. The few results that came up indicated a faulty oil filter, improper viscosity of oil, bad oil pump, and faulty oil pressure sending sensor/gauge. Like changing the flow characteristics from the oil's actual 5W30 rating to 10W30 or from 10W30 to 10W40, just enough to maintain adequate oil pressure at idle. IF a problem with oil pressure BEGINS SHORTLY AFTER AN OIL CHANGE, odds are the wrong oil was used-for the engine's current condition.

May 31, 2013 · Running an engine hard with low oil can cause a lot of bearing wear in a short time. The increased wear opens the bearing gap which allows oil to flow out faster and it shows up as low oil pressure. Once the revs come up, the oil is pumped in faster than it "leaks out" and the pressure comes up.

On the other hand, when the temperature rises above the tolerance level of the oil, it expands and becomes a cause of low pressure at idle. In such a situation, using a more viscous engine oil than your existing brand should be considered.

All the light indicates is whether or not there is pressure. If you have a low amount of oil, but the still have pressure the light will stay off. You can damage your engine with low oil and not have the oil light on. However, the 30-40 seconds you describe from your oil change (with a fair amount of oil in the bike) likely did nothing.
